a bigger and better report will appear in Gang-Gang. About 20 COG
members attended the campout at Willandra NP near Hillston. A total
of 125 species were recorded for the camp, either on Willandra itself
or the excursions to Merriwagga, Loughnan Reserve and Langtree
Reserve. After some initial concerns about state of the road into the
Park, everyone made it and the weather was kind. Everyone will have
their own highlights, but for me they were 3 black falcons, the Major
Mitchells at Merriwagga (2 on the campout excursion, 7 on a stopover
on the return trip), the VERY large numbers of black-shouldered kites,
a group of 6 young night herons at the creek at Willandra, the
owlet-nightjar flushed from a tree hollow, two barn owls within 10
minutes near the Willandra homestead, a huge group of white-fronted
chats, the frogmouths around the campsite the beautiful carpet python
Steve H found in the rafters of the toilet block, and meeting some
members I'd only encountered in the membership database!
Thanks Noel!
