I saw 2 groups in early Feb, which surpised me.
They were after walking around the boardwalk the trail heads back fairly straight towards Batemans Bay, initially through banksia scrub, then a big open area with lomandra and grasses, thats where I saw one group, then when almost back to the beach/bay another group was there.
