Friday March 25 upper Queanbeyan River Tinderrry.
On the top of a dead tree a Diamond Firetail sat dangling a very
long (over half metre) single piece of grass. Then dropped down the
hillside carrying the grass stem to (I presume) impress a female
audience. And a subsequent breeding event in April?
A Fantail Cuckoo had been standing by all afternoon. But may have
been eyeing the Whitebrowed Scrubwrens.
Breeding could be delayed a bit this year after major flood in late
December and another high water this year. The valley is narrow at
this point, and willows and ti-tree bushes have been swept
downstream. Debris piled to 10 metres.
Heard a group of Rainbow Bee-eaters (15?) passing over in early evening.
