Circa 1989 I reported a PP in my street to the Ianfraserline From: [ Sent: Saturday, 26 March 2011 10:24 PM To: ; @pcug.org.au; ; Subject: Re: [canberrabirds] Small birds & mystery parrot in Holder There are not many times when I dont take responsibility. But, seriously, the email,, swapped messages. I was just checking whether email was working. I sent it to myself. Btw it was probably a Princess parrot, not an Indian Ringnech, which obviously dont have rose necks, look at pictures. -----Original Message----- From: To: @pcug.org.au; ; Sent: Sat, Mar 26, 2011 10:15 pm Subject: Re: [canberrabirds] Small birds & mystery parrot in Holder bla bla -----Original Message----- From: Philip Veerman <> To: 'Rod's Gardening' <m("grapevine.com.au","rodsgardening");">>; m("canberrabirds.org.au","canberrabirds");"> Sent: Sat, Mar 26, 2011 4:54 pm Subject: [canberrabirds] Small birds & mystery parrot in Holder Your parrot is most likely a Rose-ringed Parakeet, a very common pet species from Asia. We get observations of them maybe a few a year. Although a Princess Parrot (a fairly common pet species) is also reasonably likely but I wouldn't think you'd get too much of an impression of green. -----Original Message----- From: Rod's Gardening [m("grapevine.com.au?","rodsgardening");">] Sent: Saturday, 26 March 2011 1:12 AM To: m("canberrabirds.org.au","canberrabirds");"> Subject: [canberrabirds] Small birds & mystery parrot in Holder Friday morning there were at a rough estimate 50 plus Silvereyes milling about in the trees in my garden, getting stirred up by a couple of Currawongs. They were joined by a pair of Grey Fantails, only seen here once before, just after the fires in 2003. Next on the scene was a Willie Wagtail with one of those small ginger/brown butterflies in its beak. It landed on the bitumen and proceeded to scoff down its meal, wings 'n all. (Do they usually eat the wings?) While all this was happening I heard an unusual call and looked up to see a parrot overhead, definitely none of the regular Rosellas or King Parrots we get here. It had a very long tail and slim body, pale green with pink under the throat/chin area. I only had a glimpse of a few seconds before it landed in a tall gum tree across the road. I made a dash for the "car" binos but before I could focus it took off with what I would describe as a loud cackle (in your general direction Tony & Charmian). On examining Simpson & Day the only possibility that comes anywhere close is a Princess Parrot, probably an aviary escapee? Rod Mackay Rod's Garden Maintenance No virus found in this message.
