This morning as we arrived (c. 10.55 am) at Callum Brae a single hobby
was engaged in harrying two Wedge-tailed Eagles at about 500ft up over
the gate area- some superb aerobatics and accompanied by loud hobby calls.
A little later two hobbies were perched on the top of a dead tree with a
few galahs anfd a noisy miner on outlying branches. No interactions
between them seen. Hobbies still there 30 mins later- no other birds on
tree.
Two immature Aus grebes still on small dam- (emerged cheeping from
grassy edge as we arrived, and swam towards us).
One young Grey Butcherbird seen, several Grey Fantails, many Eastern
Rosellas etc..

Interesting interactions at CB today between two hobbies, a sulphur
crested cockatoo and two galahs. The hobbies were chasing the galahs
on and off, and were in turn chased very closely by a single cockatoo.
I watched this going on for about 15 mins, with short breaks as the
two hobbies chased each other. The cockatoo was very persistent,
watching carefully if a hobby landed in thick foliage, landing close
by and walking up the branch till it was close enough to prod the
hobby into flight again, then took off after it. some field guides say
hobbies are known to engage in play flights with other birds - perhaps
they were all just enjoying the beautiful morning! three wedgetailed
eagles also sighted - two overhead and one sitting in a tree near the
large pylons. Two immature Aust grebes on one dam, two immatures and
a parent on the big farm dam.
