Interesting- in the field of botany, a US journal changed its name
for a similar kind of reason in 2006 ... see below.

Reason for change
The leadership of the Botanical Research Institute of Texas has
decided the name "Sida"
is offensive and has too much of a negative connotation because
of its similarity to the
word meaning AIDS in Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese.
Perhaps the name change
is a good thing but I am personally saddened to see Shinners'
original and long-standing
