Following a reliable report from a rogaining friend of some GB Cockatoos in a nature park to the east of Lanyon I visited the area this afternoon, setting off for the 5km walk from the outlying suburb of Banks, this being particularly appropriate as the suburb and the bird were both named for the same person. No sign of the birds on this occasion, but the area was interesting enough, having some interesting veg with a healthy component of the promised casuarina. The theme for naming of the streets of Banks is ‘botanists, things botanical and relating to natural history’. I don’t see a lot to do with birds in the list of street names, but there is a ‘Lesueur Place’ which recalls the Charles Alexandre, the artist on whom we rely for what we know of the appearance of the now-extinct dwarf emu of Kangaroo Island.
