thanks, good photo. This year the 2 pairs/groups of D. Moorhen at Norgrove Park also raised their 2nd broods with the help of the young from their 1st broods. Especially one of the extended families is still quite cohesive.

On reaching for my HANZAB for an explanation of a sub-adult D Moorhen feeding a chick, I find that Michael Lenz has once again been there before us all.  Immatures do participate in groups of these co-operative breeders.  While one study reported ?no parental behaviour in birds less than 10 months old?, Michael contributed (in Corella 1990) a report of ?young of first brood feeding chicks of second brood?.
