Adding to the comments about there being a lot of stubble quail around at the moment, I took a bike ride down to Woolcara lane and on to Murdering Sheep Flat this morning.  A pair of Stubble Quail flushed from the side of Captains Flat Rd at Carwoola homestead and for the next 12 km or so the calls of these birds were coming from every paddock full of high grass.  Not only did the quail not poke out the top of the grass: neither did small cattle.

A flock of about 4 Southern Whiteface did poke out when they flew to the top of a 10m high dead eucalypt well along the road through Woolcara Station.

The road is in fair condition although the water flowing over the road at the first Creek in Yanununbeyan suggests that any further rain could make access tricky.
