Callum Brae is a jewel in more ways than just its avian delights.  I spotted this Austracantha minax (Jewelled spider) finishing off its web, and managed to get a few shots, one showing the silk coming out of its spinneret.  That was no easy task, with the wind blowing the web back and forth causing me to utter the occasional swear word.  The wind didn’t bother the spider, she continued to work with remarkable speed.  The spider was in a rather exposed location, I wonder if it is now inside one of our avian friends.

Margaret Leggoe.
