Hi everyone,
I am a PhD student at the Australian National University and my project
has involved the release of 43 Brown Treecreepers into Mulligans Flat
and Goorooyarroo Nature Reserves just over a year ago. I am still
monitoring the remaining birds in these reserves to track survival,
however since there are no longer any functioning radio-transmitters and
some birds have dispersed, such monitoring can be quite difficult. I am
therefore hoping that you can help.
If you are out in Mulligans and Goorooyarroo and happen to come across a
Brown Treecreeper or two, it would be great if you could let me know.
Information on the following would be great:
-date and time
-location - gps position if possible
-coloured leg bands for identification (if possible)
-if the bird seems to be by itself or with other birds
I have attached some maps of Mulligans and Goorooyarroo indicating where
I know some birds are, or where some are suspected to be. Birds may be
in other areas, so please let me know if you see them anywhere. Please
note that all of my birds have leg bands attached.
Area 1: Known birds are Haiku (YKMU - female) (Yellow over black on left
leg, metal over mauve on right leg)
USB Port (USMB - male) (Mauve over split on left leg, metal over
dark blue on right leg)
Lure (LUMR - female) (Light blue over mauve on left leg, metal
over red on right leg)
Area 2: Known birds are Kaja Goo Goo (KGMG - female) (Black over green
on left leg, metal over green on right leg)
TV (RGMB - male) (Red over green on left leg, metal over dark
blue on right leg)
Sewal (SUML - male) (Split over mauve on left leg, metal over
light blue on right leg).
Area 3: Birds were last seen in this area in September. I haven't been
able to find them in this area since. However, birds have been spotted
in the stringybark areas behind the new wool-shed so they may have moved
here. So if you see any birds around here, please let me know. I did
spot Uber here in November (Uber is usually down in Goorooyarroo) (UBMR
- male) (Mauve over dark blue on left, metal over red on right leg).
Area 4: Birds were last seen here in October-November, but not since.
Most likely birds are:
Uber: (UBMR - male) (Mauve over dark blue on left, metal over red on
right leg).
Glass: (GLMS - male) (green over light blue on left, metal over
split on right)
Wirey (YRMY - female) (yellow over red on left, metal over yellow on
right)
You can email any sightings directly to me on
Thanks for your help in advance.
Kind Regards
Victoria
