My brother-in-law, an orchardist on the slopes of Mt. Canobolas near Orange,
had a successful brood of four magpie chicks 2 weeks ago on his property.
The parents looked a little ragged!

Perhaps it's the good season?

Howdy All,

Out of interest, what is the maximum number of magpie babies from a single brood? We've had 4 babies here for the last couple of weeks, coming from a nest in a large Eucalypt in a neighbours backyard. The day they came out of the next they were all lined up together on a dead branch in a nearby tree with mum and dad madly going backwards and forward trying to feed the demanding little dears. <grin> I don't think I've ever seen 4 successfully fledge before? I know it has been a good year this year for the garden, and therefore the food sources would be excellent, but I didn't even know they could have 4 at a time. I pity the poor parents, who must by now be wishing they had practiced birth control. LOL

Cheers.
