Below are snaps of butcherbirds taken in the last couple of days at 2 different nature parks.   The bird on the left is a typical adult.  >From HANZAB, it seems the best guide to age is the bill colour.  Although I find the terminology a bit confusing, I take the bird on the right to be a ‘first immature’, meaning it was born in (possibly early) last Spring and is about to moult into ‘second immature’ when it will be almost indistinguishable from an adult bird.
