On Thursday I watched a clutch of seven dusky moorhen chicks all about the same age out feeding together.  I wondered whether it was a single clutch or a crèche I was watching.  After a while four swam over to the near side of the swamp in the company of one adult, and another adult met another three halfway and took them under its wing (metaphorically speaking).

The raptors and foxes must be sharpening their cutlery.

Margaret Leggoe.
