I spent the morning at Muligans Flat yesterday
enjoying the many flowers and nesting birds. The highlight was 4 species
nesting within 20m of each other: White-winged Chough, Noisy Friarbird, Leaden
Flycatcher and White-throated Gerygone. The Chough nest (and other Chough
nests in the area) had eggs and the NFs and LFs were nearing completion of
their nest. The WtG was trying to start construction but as the attached
photo shows, the NF raided it for nesting material. This is not the first
time I have seen NFs raid the nests of smaller species for their own
nesting material but it was the first time I managed to capture it on
video. The NF was attacked vigourously but it did manage to get away with
some of the WtG's nest.
