Lindsay and all

I have recently observed such behaviour during our trip along the coast of WA from Broome south.  Being such an accomplished ornithologist  I took the behaviour for granted, and made no special note of it.  It could have been anywhere between Broome and Geraldton, but I definitely observed the behaviour.  Most likely place was in Shark Bay.

Cheers

Those who have been to or are familiar with the birds of Southern Africa will be aware of the Black Egret’s habit of spreading its wings to provide a shelter for fish, etc and thus an easy meal.  Recently at Exmouth, WA I observed an Eastern Reef Egret which appeared to be doing the same thing.  It was wading in shallow water and obviously feeding and from time to time it would pause and spread its wings in a similar manner to the Black Egret before continuing to hunt.  Has anyone else observed this in EREs?

Regards
