Your description (if it is a bird) is very suggestive of Wompoo Pigeon
to me. (I was hearing one on last Saturday).

Subject: Possibly off topic - Queensland frog (bird?)
In case anyone has come across this animal. I think it's a frog, but it
might just be a bird:
Place: Fitzroy Island, nr Cairns
Location: Rainforest gully
Date: a few weeks ago
Time: early afternoon
I heard a sound that could best be transcribed as "Wallop.... owwww"
repeated every several seconds. The "owwww" part sounded like Moriarty
in the Goon Show.
Does anyone recognise this beast? The Australian frogs list drew a
blank, and I can't rule out the sound being made by one of our feathered
friends.
Orange-footed Scrubfowl were active in the general vicinity (and very
hard to photograph!)
Regards
DN
