Friday afternoon 3rd September.

Whilst trying to find the female Frogmouth in the nest tree they have returned to for 2010 I disturbed the "hunting" of a Pallid cuckoo.

Once I'd moved-off, the cuckoo swooped to the ground and took a caterpillar into a nearby cherry tree for consumption.
As there were others on the path's edge I assume the cuckoo's victim was an Apina callisto larva. One less pupating-tunnel cut out of the gravel grain-by-grain and one less April Day-flying (or Pasture) Moth in 2011.
