Based on the lack of observations over this weekend
the Crescent Honeyeater which was present in my Chapman garden from early June
has moved on. For the last week or so of July he was very vocal and
conspicuous up to Friday 30 July, then only heard first thing on 31/7, 2 &
3/8. I had expected him to stay a little longer.
Last weekend more so than the present
one, there was clear evidence of species starting to move, with a couple of
largish flocks (20 and 8) and well separated of Diamond Firetails seen on
Cooleman Ridge/Narrabundah Hill, in the second case accompanied by about a
dozen Red-browed Finches, the biggest groups of either of these species seen in
the local area this winter.
The Scarlet and Flame Robins are also on the move,
popping up where they weren't present over the past two months. Still
managed to find a pair of the former this afternoon, and 3 of the latter this
morning, 2 of which were males, which typically have formed a high percentage
(50%+) of the groups this winter.
