Today in our yard there were 6 immature male Gang-gangs loafing about being creaky. Eventually they were joined by an adult female. I know that Gang-gangs are not a well-studied parrot, but has anyone come across references to groups of immature birds? There were some thoughts on Gang-gangs on Canberrabirds recently where someone said they thought that there were fewer than 50 Gang-gangs in south Canberra in the winter. (Apologies if I have misremembered this). I am a little more hopeful. I think if I went around all the spots I know for Gang-gangs in south Canberra at this time of year, which would take a few hours, I could probably see 250. Still, not a large number. I think they are quite endangered, probably 'near-threatened' rather than 'least concern'. :-( John Leonard |
