Geoff,

I had a Noisy Friarbird calling from eucalypts on the northern flanks of Urambi Hills near the entrance to Gleneagles Estate at 7:43 h on Monday 14 June. Sounded like just a single bird.

Subject: [canberrabirds] Winterbirds Project Week 1

Thanks for reports so far.  This project aims to record occurrence of 10 Winter ‘scarcities’ in the broader COG area of interest.  It is limited to the 8 weeks to 31 July.  Please send any reports either to the chatline or to me directly.  Late reports are welcome and will be incorporated  -  if you can give the date.

Below is the summary for week 1.  I’ll defer any discussion until the end, but 2 quick points:  (a) it seems that the F-t Cuckoos reported in ANBG up to early June may have moved away.  I’d still expect one or two in the period.  (b)  the dozen-odd D Swallows on Thurs/Fri were probably the same group in the woodland on the NW side of Lake Ginn.

I’m keeping a record of locations to see if there’s any pattern there.
