Ah yes, a Brush Cuckoo in a nature reserve and more importantly in late October is not so unusual. Sure they are not common, but when they arrive, and pass through our area, they call a lot, so no reason to question this one. Yes mimicry then by another species is of course possible in late October, but on the balance of probabilities, it is less likely that your observation was mimicry by another species. Calling in late May in contrast is odd.

For what it's worth, I heard the distinctive call of what I believed was a Brush Cuckoo in Hackett nature reserve last October. But I did not know about the mimicry possibility then.
