This morning I went for a reconnaissance of the route for the planned Wednesday Walk from O'Connor shops to LBG and back.  I found a number of issues with my proposal:
  1. due to (inter alia) the twists and turns of the Creek it is close to 4km one way, rather than the approximately 2km I was expecting;
  2. parking in the vicinity of the O'Connor shops is 2 hour limit (or less);
  3. the amount of construction work in the vicinity is quite daunting and certainly adds some diversions to the walk (ANU should be renamed Australian National Building Site); and
  4. there were very few birds around.
All in all I don't think this venue would be much fun for the walk.

My plan B is to suggest the Australian National Botanic Gardens.  We haven't been there as a group since June '08 and at least there will be a few interesting birds there!  If anyone has any views against this please let me know by reply to this email, and I will implement Plan C (which is of course to rapidly develop and implement plans D and E).

I will resolve this before the Meeting next week and send round a confirmatory email in a few days.

Martin
