I am sure that there is some interest amonst
COG/Chatline members in the above subject, and would draw your attention to a
recently published book, "Effective Ecological Monitoring" by David B
Lindenmayer and (US expert) Gene E Likens. 2010. CSIRO Publishing.
The book is 163 pages long and covers
subject areas both inside and outside our field.
However, David has written two shorter summary
papers that are more in line with our interests.
The book discusses successful and unsuccessful monitoring and
emphasises that effective programs need to be carefully planned, with clear
objectives (questions to be answered), detailed statistical input at the start
and adequate skilled resources for surveying, data analysis and reporting.
It has already sold out its first print run.
The
summaries are too long to circulate on the chatline, but I would be happy
to send them directly to individuals.
Cheers,
Bruce
