The ANPS Wednesday Walk today was along the Smokers Trail and Square Rocks tracks in Namadgi.  There were a lot of Yellow-faced Honeyeaters around but they seemed to be milling around rather than moving consistently as might be suggested for the start of migration.  This may be related to the amount of flowering Euc. dalrympleana in the area giving them a reason to remain up country (at about 1350m amsl).  This certainly seemed to be the reason for a very raucous flock of about 20 Red Wattlebirds moving through the canopy.

There were also a lot of White eared Honeyeaters throughout the walk, and Fuscous and White-naped Honeyeaters were evident at Smokers Flat.  A flock of 8 varied sitellas were also browsing some dead eucalypts at Smokers Flat.

As mentioned in my earlier email, at Tuross Falls they appeared to be migrating there last Sunday, but there also appeared to be a separate population that was not migrating, instead feeding, bathing and hanging around. The migrators came in groups of around 5-15 and often with White-naped HEs.

This afternoon where Sugarloaf Creek crosses the Yass-Wee Jasper road (GrO8) we watched 14 sets of from 1 to 11 Yellow-faced Honeyeaters moving along the line of the creek in  a period of three quarters of an hour. The general direction was North. Earlier, in another location, we had seen a flock of 32 mill about before heading both uphill and East.
