Thanks for info re wasps - had cause to ring the very helpful Philip Spradbury from the Wasp Hotline last Friday -  I had an underground nest near my pond, which has now been sprayed (not before I'd been bitten though.. ouch)  Please don't attempt to spray a European wasp with any sort of commercial bug spray.. it only makes them very angry.
