In view of recent postings on Cockatoo food preferences I thought some folk may be interested in these photos of a magnificent Grass Tree taken in a Weston garden, firstly in flower (taken in November), then with the small white flowers gone and seed set, and finally with the Sulphur-crested Cockatoos moving in to take advantage of the situation  (both taken January).

The plant was bought maybe 15 - 20 years ago at Woollies (for 20 bucks) and has never flowered before.  The spear is approx 4 metres high.  As the flowers have faded and the seed set it has acted like a beacon to the Cockatoos which have moved in and dined on grass tree seed for main course. Desert over successive weeks has been firstly apricots, followed by satsuma plums and finally cherry tomatoes!  But pink bread never quite made it to the menu.

Cheers
