Thanks for the report Neil.
I went to look for the Lewin’s Rail
briefly yesterday evening but not much around. Returned this morning and
finally managed brief views of a Lewins Rail and a Spotless Crake in Crake
Alley. However the water levels had risen considerably overnight and the birds
were staying well back within the reeds. Quite different from the picture a few
weeks back when the Spotless Crakes (including the young bird with the white
front that I believe a few others have also seen this summer) were showing really
well out on the mud. I missed the Lewin’s Rail then (reported by Pete
Milburn) despite about 6 early morning and evening visits.
An Aus Shelduck also twice circled over Geoffrey Dabb and myself as we waiting
for the crakes/rails to show again. It then flew over the road as I was driving
out and landed towards the back of the Fyshwick ponds.
Cheers Dan

Kellys is dry but there
is a little water in the reedbeds where the channel narrows west of Ardea Hide.
There was a Spotless Crake and a Lewins Rail there this morning (11/2).
