You probably all know this but I have read that the term
'404 [error]' came from Room 404, the room used by the CERN staff who first developed
the World Wide Web. CERN originally stood for Conseil Européen pour la
Recherche Nucléaire, although the organisation's name has been changed since.
The main facility stands in the French countryside near Geneva. I remember
driving past it in the 1970s on a birdwatching morning, well before the launch
of the internet (opened to public use in 1993). I can't remember what I saw
except for nuthatches and a Black Redstart which sticks in my memory for some
reason.

Subject: CORRECTION - Re: [canberrabirds] The Google Earth Grid
file
My apologies. The link *doesn't* work. A file called
"COG_GRID.KMZ" gets downloaded, but it is NOT the KMZ file. It
actually contains a copy of the 404 error HTML.
It looks like there is a mismatch between the address in
the link and the actual location of the file. Sorry if I have caused confusion.
:(
