Hi Vivien,
Your bird is indeed a Hoary-headed Grebe
in full breeding plumage. However I would like to query your Pied Cormorant
record. Are you sure you don’t mean Little Pied Cormorant as the Pied is
relatively uncommon in the ACT and is usually only found on the larger water
bodies locally whereas the Little Pied can be found on quite small areas of
water such as farm dams.
Cheers,
Mark

pleasant. I saw 1 Pelican, several black pacific and wood ducks, couple
of pied cormorant, Australsian Grebe, 2 black fronted dotterel, 1 female musk
duck, uerasian coote with young. I need help with ID for the other
photo... is it a hoary headed Grebe or a young Australasian?
In the bush at the side of the lake, several Magpie lark and
at least 2 young, 2 Willie wagtail with young, White naped honey eater 4, lots
od Superb fairy wrens and some welcome swallows.
