I have checked a weather forecast for next Wednesday, 20th January and it looks as though it should be fine and not too hot - perhaps high 20s, perhaps a tad cooler. So the walk can go ahead unless something dramatic happens. I have also corresponded with John Moore, the owner of the property we are to visit in the Tinderries, and he has advised that the pre-Christmas fire largely missed the property so he is happy for the visit to go ahead. Since it is a reasonably long (by our standards) drive to the property I suggest that those coming from Canberra and Queanbeyan gather for car poolng at the Spotlight Carpark in Queanbeyan by 8 am. To ensure that no-one is left behind could intending participants - who didn't do so before Christmas - let me know of their intentions. Head towards Bungendore, turning rigth into Captains Flat Road. I will be waiting at the intersection with Briars Sharrow Rd (about 14km down CF road) and join in there. I suspect it will take an hour from Queanbeyan to the property and plan to send about 4 hours or so there. I suggest everyone brings something for lunch and plenty of water. Remember, by the time you feel thirsty you re probably already dehydrated. I don't expect the country to be too rough, but have never visited the place. I expect we will be walking off tracks in places so solid shoes will be required and I suggest long trousers would be sensible. Martin Butterfield. |
