Interesting. I didn't realise they were endangered. I have seen them
around for a couple of years or so, figuring they had moved habitat
since the fires like other species.. Yesterday I saw a pair in
Macquarie and about three weeks ago I saw a flock of about 15-20 in
Macquarie.

Hi Trevor
Welcome to the email-line & the Koel's presence in our neck of the
woods for several weeks (We're in Flynn). I'm glad you've seen one.
For all that noise they're often hard to locate.
There seemed to be several calling this morning, 06.30, as the more
staccato calls over-lapped. Perhaps it was the adults collecting all
the juveniles in order to teach them how to be Koels and not adopted
progeny from other species!!
You may be interested in the Superb Parrot show that's been on around
the Wickens Place carpark in Fraser. These endangered parrots focus
on Mt Rogers at this time of the year but at least 30 seem to have
come to the ACT in September rather than Xmas & COG people have been
trying to find out why, where they've been & if several families have
bred here. There were about 30 S parrots feeding on Wickens PLace
grasses on Saturday & Sunday mornings from 07.30 if you're able to see
them. They usually leave the ACT around mid-January but they've also
been seen & heard in several Belconnen suburbs recently as they forage
in un-harvested fruittrees or on the ground.
Happy hunting/birding,
Rosemary
