I finally found a bit of spare time today to check out the WK nest in the Jerrabomberra Creek wetlands - it was worth braving the strong north westerlies and high temps.  As I approached, and adult bird left the nest to reveal at least one and probably two small chicks poking their little heads above the rim of the nest.  Viewing conditions were difficult with the strong winds making my kayak unstable and waving the willow foliage across my line of sight but I'm reasonably certain there were two little ones. After an absence of about 15 minutes an adult bird returned and again sat on the nest.

During a quick survey of Molonglo Reach I counted 17 occupied Darter nests including 4 with young ones, 4 Little Black Cormorant nests, 3 of these with young of various sizes, and one active Great Cormorant nest.  Other birds of interest were Sacred Kingfisher, Dollarbird, and a Willie Wagtail pounding a Dusky Moorhen as it swam about minding its own business.

Cheers
