There is a fair body of scintific thought  eg http://www.americanscientist.org/issues/pub/the-source-of-europes-mild-climate that the Gulf stream is not responsible for Britain's climate (although I and the author of that article both used to believe it to be so).  It now appears the crucial factor is that the prevailing wind blows across a body of water which retains heat longer than land.

This doesn't say anything about global warming per se but merely lays a legend to rest.

Hi!

I recently attended a meeting where Prof Jeremy Greenwood, the recently retired chief of R.S.P.B. where gave a highly informative talk on the distribution and redistribution on some of the bird species in Britain.  The UK being attractive to a host of migratory species as it is warmer in winter than Europe in general because of the Gulf Stream flowing from the Gulf of Mexico to the west coast of the British Isles.
They have huge survey data with records that go back to the 60s, some even before that, and what is being indicated is that some species that historically didn't nest there before are now doing so.  There is also some evidence that species like the Redwing and Fieldfare that  traditionally arrived in the winter are in now decline as the conditions in Europe are not as severe and whereby they are able to remain there.   Species that were only seen in the south of England are now moving further north and in some cases are seen regularly now in Scotland.  Does point slowly to Global warming?   I would say so with all the other evidence shown everyday, but others would say its a normal regular long weather cycle, some creationists would say Darwin got it wrong.  The Flat world people said that Christopher Columbus would fall off the side before he reached America, sadly that didn't happen. These sceptics on global warming could be right but heaven help us all if they're wrong, because if they are wrong and don't back the measures put forward to put a halt to this, well there is just no going back. ever!  Forever!. Amen.
