The linked document is interesting and in my view a wide range of members of COG would have personal views, as well as our organisational one, that should be made known to the Commissioner.

One of the areas covered by the enquiry is Lower Molonglo River from Coppins Crossing to the junction with the Murrumbidgee River.  Does anyone have a link to a map showing the actual boundary of this area?  My main reason for asking is that it used to be possible to run, walk  or ride a mountain bike along the service road between Coppins and Stockdill Drive but the Western end of that road now appears to be closed.

If we can access the area satisfactorily would anyone be interested in joining me in an MTB ride along the track at some juncture in the next 4 weeks to see what can be seen?  It used to be pretty flat and easy riding (apart from the flies and evidence of grazing) until the last 1 km up to Stockdill.

The Commissioner for Sustainability and the Environment, Dr Maxine Cooper, is conducting an investigation into Canberra Nature Park (nature reserves); the Molonglo River Corridor (nature reserves) and Googong Foreshores and is inviting public submissions.

It is important that those interested in the conservation of bird habitat respond as individuals to this invitation.  COG will be providing an official response, on behalf of members, but every individual response adds weight to the voice of public opinion.  Let's make sure government know that there are a lot of us out there who believe in the value of the conservation of bird habitat and that appropriate measures are taken to achieve this.
