Hi
I took this picture
of a Koel in our garden in Holder at the end of last month, when it settled
briefly before being chased off by the peewits and bowerbirds. Fortunately for
us (because the constant call at close quarters must be pretty hard to tolerate)
it hasn't been back , but a koel has been calling in the Duffy/Holder area for
the last several days.
Yesterday Tony saw a
male collared sparrow-hawk land on the pergola outside the lounge room window -
it flew away almost as soon as he noticed it, but it is a first for our
garden.
There are a number
of young king parrots here at the present time, the males looking very unswish
with their mottled red colouring coming through, and our peewit pair have built
another nest in the eucalyptus in the front yard, and it is now occupied.
Unfortunately there is a currawong harrassing them already and this does not
bode well for any fledgelings......A sulphur crested cockatoo comes every day
and sits on the power line - its front is really dirty, as if it has been
grubbing round in the dust for days. The other birds that do the same thing do
not have this dirty appearance - I wonder why.
