Robin,
Difficult to tell from these photos, but I'd say the
darkness of the bill indicates a male Rufous Songlark rather than female. The
males are significantly larger than females. The rufous isn't always easy to
see, but it is definitely there in these photos, peeking out from under the
wings.

At Lake Gininderra this afternoon, on the bike path from the John
Knight Park to the Gininderra Drive Bridge (in front of the new retirement
village), this bird was in and out of the grass until swooped and driven off by
a magpie- I didn't hear any calls. I think its a female Rufous Songlark, but I
could'nt see much rufous...any suggestions welcome. Robin Hide
