Went for a walk round Yerrabi this AM, from the Mirrabei Dr.
Dam clockwise via Horse Park Drive. This was mainly for exercise with birding equipment
limited to Mk 1 Eyeballs (with 1x optical squint) and standard ears.
However....
·
At the SW corner: in addition to reed warblers clamouring
there was a L Grass Bird being plaintive;
·
At the NW corner, a familiar loud call was followed
by a Rufous Songlark flying about and then landing on a lamp standard. There may
have been more than 1 given the calls but I only saw 1).
Re Roger C’s query about Musk Duck:
·
At the SW corner: 1 female + 1 younger bird (about
15-18 cm long) in tow [reasonably confident ID but it was early and
misty];
·
Mid lake near the cross bridge, 1 male doing the
water squirting display (thought there was a second bird but when I got closer
either he was alone or the other had dived);
·
2 females (I think) silhouetted in mist against
sun as I crossed the dam on the last leg;
·
1 male near the SW corner just before I walked back
into Ngunnawal. (NB we almost always see MDs in the deep part by the dam)
