A patch of short grass in my backyard is currently peppered with the black and canola-gold flowers of Capeweed Xxx Yppp. Yesterday morning I was surprised to see about seven Silvereyes busily pecking at the blooms. Surprised because I can't recall this species ground-feeding before. But whether they were sipping nectar or taking tiny invertebrates, perhaps both, I've no idea.
