Added to yesterday's list were Red-capped Robin, Jacky Winter, Brown
Thornbill (dy), and Tawny Frogmouth (on).
Since Stuart Rae's excellent presentation on the Tawny Frogmouth I have
checked hundreds of trees and thousands of dead branches, no doubt
missing many frogmouths in the process.
Today I noticed a bit of a mess in a mistletoe clump and sure enough, a
Frogmouth was sitting on top of the mess, trying to look,
anthropomorphically, as if it had nothing to do with anything, really.
[The tree is a Yellow Box and is about 50 metres to your right as you
reach the Woodland Gate in the Forde entrance of Mulligan's Flat NR. It
is outside the Sanctuary fence.]
I also found several new sets of Painted Button-quail saucers, again
criss-crossed the relevant hill (with some help from Ben Walmersley
(sp?) and again failed to see a Painted Button-quail.
On a more sombre note, I found a dead Australian Wood Duck. It had
caught its leg in a crack at the lip of a hollow, had been unable to
escape, and had died half way up a tree. I assume that it was Australian
Ravens which had started the recycling process.
regards
Con
