A great accompaniment to anyone who has the pleasure of seeing these birds in Canberra is to read the chapter, by the late Graham Pizzey, in the recent CSIRO publication Boom and Bust.  The chapter is titled Barcoo bantam: 'It runs like hell!'.  The ACT Public Library Service has two copies of this book, but I note that both are on presently loan and that there are three further requests for it.  I haven't worked out the propriety of this next fact, but a search in Google books brings up a facsimile of the majority of the book, including the full chapter on this Barcoo bantam that runs like hell.
