Highlights at Jerrabomberra Wetlands today in windy, wet and cold conditions
were 1, possibly 2, Black-tailed Native Hens - I spotted one in the paddock
over the far side from Cygnus Hide, and about 5 minutes later, found one in the
paddock below the Education Centre. 7 Whiskered Terns hunkered down during one
of the squally rain showers and then flew off when the rain stopped. 6
Black-winged Stilts, 2 Sharp-tailed Sandpipers, 1 Black-fronted Dotterel and 1
Whistling Kite were the other more interesting species. Walking back via
Norgrove Park, I failed to find any native hens, rails or crakes, although I
was only there for a few minutes. I did notice, however, that the water level
has risen appreciably, and perhaps that has caused the native hen to move over
to Kellys?
