Hi All

Al’s Curlew Sand was still on the main lake at Kelly’s Swamp at lunch today. It was keeping close company with two Sharp-tailed Sandpipers and had moved further along the far bank (opposite the ?alder that is covered in bright yellow catkins). The views were much closer and in better light than yesterday, allowing the neatly patterned mantle and wing covets (fine pale fringes) of a fresh plumage juvenile bird to be seen. The slightly warmer tones to the feathers on top of the head were also visible (another feature that can help to distinguish juveniles from adults).

A single Latham’s Snipe, Red-kneed Dotterel, and Black-fronted Dotterel were also present on the muddy fringes of the main lake.

Cheers Dan
