Thanks to Chris for reminding me to try to find this bird. Today it was in the
top of a tree close to the road on the right hand side of the rainforest gully
(looking uphill from the bottom of the gully), near the top of the gully
circuit. I spotted it courtesy of a Pied Currawong which was trying to get the
owl to move (but decided that discretion was the better part of valour).
The owl was clearly visible from the road - better than from within the forest
which was where I first saw it.
So here's a photo of the owl, for those who haven't seen it. In the absence of
a tripod, I had to crank the ISO up to 1600 so the image is a bit noisy. The
person at the information desk said that it has been responsible for a
significant increase in visitors - at least those asking where to find it!
Apparently the owl has been enjoying the possum population in the gardens and
leaving a trail of possum tails.
