Today I stumbled across a pair of crows copulating on the ground. as soon as I saw them, I left the area so as not to cause them to panic. The pair was in a grassy clearing surrounded by a few bushes and a tree. It seems strange that they should be in the open, and on the ground, where a fast moving predator such as a cat might have got them both. Also, as far as I have observed or read, most birds that spend a reasonable amount of time in the air mate on perches. Has anyone got any idea why these crows were where they were?

Also a pair of copulating spotted turtle doves on Monaro Crescent, and looking back I think I Should  have thrown that pebble at them! they seem to be getting more common now in areas such as red hill and in particular, Holder.
