Dear COG forum members and especially
Elizabeth Compston.
This weekend, Robertson (in the Southern
Highlands of NSW) several small parties of Yellow-faced Honeyeaters passed
through, heading south. The weather was unseasonably warm.
This fits the returning pattern for these
birds. In autumn they come through here in recognisable "flocks" (30 +
birds), but in winter/spring they travel in very small, dispersed groups, it
seems.
As I have mentioned on this forum, YFHEs are
NOT resident birds in the Sassafras-based rainforest of Robertson, so to hear
any YFHE is unusual, (typically in autumn and spring migrating groups
only). These sightings tend to be a very brief contact, as the birds
pass through. Such was the experience today.
Cheers
