Howdy All,
At the risk of offending those who hate questions being asked that
have already been asked sometime previously (no idea how to search
this in the archives, so I am just asking here).....
Today i watched a Currawong going through leaf litter in the manner
that Choughs do, i.e throwing barking out the way, looking carefully,
pecking at anything of interested, then moving on to the next piece
of bark/whatever is on the ground. It didn't appear to be searching
for anything in particular (i.e it wasn't chasing something), but
rather just wandering through checking in case there was something
edible underneath. Is this normal behaviour for them? In the last
few years of cursing these mongrel birds (as soon as they appear
everything else disappears that is smaller than a crested pigeon,
which is a real shame) I have never noticed a Currawong scavenging
about on the ground like that. The Choughs obviously enough use that
method regularly, but I haven't seen it in Currawongs. Is it normal
behaviour elsewhere, and just not in my garden?
Thanks for any responses, and apologies if this has already been
discussed somewhere in the past and I don't know about it. I know
many on the list don't like basic questions, and I rarely post
anything for exactly that reason, but this one stood out as quite
different behaviour to anything I have ever observed before, and
seemed so out of character for a Currawong?
Thanks very much.
Cheers.
Paul T.
