The Alexander Maconochie (corrective services) Centre (yellow arrow), on the Monaro Highway, as it appears from ‘the Ridge’, Callum Brae Nature Park.  Indicated with green arrows are new housing estates in New South Wales, some residents of which (as if they didn’t have enough to worry about with water supply and aircraft noise and everything) protested about the AMC being constructed within their line of view.  The former pastureland in the foreground is where scarlet and frame robins are frequently seen in Winter.  The grasslands on Callum Brae and in the valley in the middle distance are said to be the haunt of remnant populations of the Striped Legless Lizard, a rare species the holotype of which is believed to have been destroyed in the bombing of Dresden in World War II.
