I suspect that on each of my relatively few visits to the National Zoo and Aquarium (last time about 6 weeks ago), I have encountered some Double-barred Finches there.

Subject: [canberrabirds] Double-Barred Finches at the National Zoo and Aquarium

Hello all,

Just went to the National Zoo and Aquarium and apart from the many bored and depressed animals there were quite a few wild birds around feasting on the feed. Amongst them 4 Double-barred Finches and the tamest wild Red-browed Firetails I've ever come across (They allowed approach down to 20 cm! photos to follow :)). Also pleanty of Moorhens (even in the big cat enclosures...) PBDs, Wood Ducks and other common waterbirds. Introduced species were also evident with large numbers of Starling, Mynah and House Sparrows seen...

Cheers!

Dimitris
