Blue green algae impact on birds?

Blue green algae levels have been high in most of Lake Burley Griffin (and L. Gininderra? and Googong Reservoir?) since 6 February this year (see weekly postings at Is there any information on how it effects birds (if at all?). Is the duration of the bloom this year exceptionally long?
